Cavan Disability Network played its part in getting footpaths and road re surfacing work done in Ballyjamesduff. This work is not completed though. As time moves on more and more areas that require improvement are coming to our attention. The work that has been carried out to date include the footpath on the Oldcastle Road and footpaths around corner onto access road to Health Centre and Library. The Access road has also been resurfaced. Two disabled parking spaces have been promised by John Flynn Access Officer Cavan County Council. The first of these is outside the aforementioned library and another outside the former Percy French Hotel/Eileen’s Hair Salon.
Ramor Theatre: Some of our members brought to the attention of the Disability Network seating arrangements in the Ramor Theatre in Virginia. Although wheelchair access is possible to the actual building said wheelchair would have to sit in front of the front row of seats. In the case of a high motorised wheelchair the view from the seat behind would be compromised. We asked that this situation be looked at so wheelchair users can sit level with the rest of the seating. Information available to us indicates this work has been done.
Funding Secured: The Disability Network assisted a member in applying for and obtaining funding for therapy for disabled adults with intellectual disabilities in a day care setting.
Elections: Cavan Disability Network were delighted to be invited to elect a representative to the Board of Cavan Sports Partnership. We also elected representatives onto the Cavan Public Participation Network Secretariat, the Local Community Development Committee and the Social Inclusion Group organised by Cavan County Council. We wish our representatives the best of luck in their respective roles.
